Turn 3D Printing
into a Real Business.
A 2-day manufacturing intensive for Austin teens, ages 12 and up.
Reserve Your SpotThis isn't a craft class. It's a manufacturing intensive.
Over two mornings, your teen will stop thinking like a consumer and start thinking like a founder. They'll learn to modify professional 3D designs, calculate the real cost of production, and build a brand that looks like a tech company — not a craft booth.
They'll run the numbers on filament waste, infill percentages, and unit margins. They'll send a custom design to the "factory" on Day 1 and unbox finished inventory on Day 2. By the time the mock market starts, they'll know exactly what their product costs to make and what it should sell for.
This is where the manufacturing mindset starts.
What You Walk Away With
Every student leaves with a full founder kit — ready to sell.
Brand
Custom Brand Identity Kit
Logo stickers and professional display signage that looks like a tech company, not a craft booth.
Inventory
20 Ready-to-Sell Prints
8 premium overnight units plus 12 live-printed impulse items. Real inventory, ready for a real market.
Tech
Laminated Pro-Sheet
3D printing basics on one side. Tinkercad hotkeys on the other. A reference sheet they'll actually use.
Business
The Waste Audit
A COGS worksheet that accounts for filament waste, power, and failed prints. Real manufacturing math.
Growth
The Growth Plan
A curated guide to Austin printer rentals, library labs, and first-printer recommendations for when they're ready to scale.
Credential
3D Print Founder Certification
Earned at the end of the mock market. Not a participation trophy — they pitch for it.
The 2-Day Breakdown
9am – 12pm each day. Drop-off event.
Day One
Design & The Deep Print
CAD modification, material costs, and sending to the factory.
9:00 – 9:30
The Manufacturing Mindset
From $1,000 machines to $20 products. Students choose their Hero Product line — fidgets, animals, keychains, or DIY paint kits.
9:30 – 10:45
CAD & COGS
Tinkercad skills sprint. Students modify a professional STL with their Founder Mark, then calculate the real cost of multi-color printing — filament waste included.
11:00 – 11:45
The Brand Studio
Designing logos and signage. Finalizing files and sending custom designs to the factory for an overnight print run.
11:45 – 12:00
Stand-Up Meeting
Each founder presents their design and unit margin. What it costs to make. What it sells for. The gap between the two.
Day Two
Production & The Market
Live slicing, impulse inventory, and the mock market.
9:00 – 9:30
The Unboxing
Students arrive to overnight results. Quality control — removing supports, inspecting the Series A inventory, and counting what made it.
9:30 – 10:30
The Impulse Line
Live slicing demo — how infill percentage changes print time, cost, and feel. Students start the 12 impulse units running while they prep for market.
10:45 – 11:30
Market Prep & Logistics
Kit assembly, branding, and pricing strategy. Impulse vs. investment pricing. Bundle psychology — 1 for $10, 3 for $25.
11:30 – 12:00
The Market Simulation
Live pitch session using Rosie Bucks. Half the founders sell, half invest. Certification awarded at the close.
What You'll Learn
Three skill areas. All of them useful after the workshop ends.
The Tech Stack
3D Design & Hardware
Tinkercad for rapid CAD modification — no experience needed.
Slicing basics — why faster isn't always better, and how layer height and infill change everything.
Hands-on time with professional Bambu Lab multi-material printers.
The Economics of Waste
Manufacturing Math
Calculating COGS — filament, power, failed prints, and the cost of multi-color swaps.
Strategic infill decisions — balancing weight, strength, and profit margin.
Unit margin math — what it costs to make vs. what it should sell for.
Salesmanship
Pricing & The Pitch
Selling the quality and precision of the print — not just the object.
Impulse vs. investment pricing strategy and when to use each.
Bundle psychology — how to structure pricing that moves more inventory.
